KC Band Update 10.31.21

Band Families,

The band staff is so proud of our student’s accomplishments this weekend at Area Marching Contest. The band advanced to finals for only the 2nd time in school history! Their hard work and dedication has been recognized by the panel of adjudicators and rewarded with the honor of being named an Area Finalist. This is a major accomplishment for our band program.

We would also like to express our gratitude to all the parent volunteers who have helped this season, especially yesterday at Area Contest. The parking situation was less than desirable and that meant we had to move equipment and students much further than we would like. I know on my fitness tracker said I logged over 24,000 steps and 11 miles yesterday and I am guessing many of our parent volunteers had more than me. Thank you for your selfless service to the band program that allows our students to focus on performing at the highest level.

Did you know that all the photos taken by our amazing photography team are posted on the KCBA Flickr account? These photos are provided at no cost and you are welcome to download, save, or print as you see fit. Check out our photos here https://kleincollinsband.org/connect-with-us#connect_pictures

Week 10 Game Info- Klein Forest HS

  • Our final game of the regular season is against Klein Forest HS and will be played at Klein Memorial Stadium. We will be on the HOME SIDE for this game. All students must ride the bus to and from the game. Please check the Charms Calendar for specific time details and stadium address.
  • KCBA will provide a Gatorade for every student after our halftime performance. Students should bring their water jug with them for rehearsal and the game. They will have a chance to refill at the end of rehearsal before we leave KCHS. This will be the only way for them to have water to drink during the game.
  • Students should bring their gold shorts, black compression shirt, black socks (crew length required), black marching shoes, black gloves, and garment bag with them on game day.
  • Football tickets for the Varsity game against Klein Memorial may be purchased here https://www.etix.com/ticket/p/5400609/klein-collins-homevsklein-forest-klein-klein-memorial-stadium-klein-collins?cobrand=KleinCollinsFootball
  • KC fans can access tickets beginning at 8:00 am on Monday November 1st. Tickets will also be sold at the stadium as well as during lunches this week.
  • If you would like to volunteer to help at this game you can sign up here: https://www.charmsoffice.com/charms/volunteerR.asp?s=klecolhsb&v=5340139

Feed the Band

  • Participation in Feed the Band is optional and provided as a convenience to you by KCBA.
  • If you did not pre-pay for the season and would like to have a meal delivered for you, bring $7 (CASH ONLY, no checks or cards) no later than 3:00pm on WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 3RD.
  • The vendor for this week is CHICK-FIL-A. Your meal will consist of a Chicken Sandwich, Chips, Cookie, and Bottled Water.

Football Playoff Games

We are in the last week of the regular season and football playoffs are on the horizon. Historically speaking Klein Collins has played 3-4 rounds into the playoffs consistently. You can expect and be prepared for playoff games through at least Thanksgiving. We will often not know our opponent, game date/time, and location until the week of the game. Most games are played on Friday or Saturday during the playoffs.

At this time we know for sure that the football team has qualified for the playoffs. We will likely have a home game at Klein Memorial Stadium on Friday November 12th. That is all subject to change but is our best guess right now. Once that is confirmed we will update the Charms calendar accordingly.

Attendance at playoff games is required for all students. We do relax our excused absence policy during the playoffs. The general rule of thumb is that if you are in town, you are at the game. If you have existing plans to be out of town that conflict with a playoff football game, please email me at the beginning of that week so we can track attendance correctly.

US Bands Remo Finale Contest

You can purchase tickets online, in advance, here https://www.showpass.com/usbands-remohouston21/ Tickets will also be sold at the stadium on the day of the contest.

The contest will be held at Magnolia West HS stadium. This is a prelims/finals contest format. KCBA will provide a meal for students after prelims. Please be sure you bring food to eat during Eat, Pack, Load time.

If you would like to volunteer to help with chaperones, pit crew, or photography you can do that on the Charms website here: https://www.charmsoffice.com/charms/volunteerR.asp?s=klecolhsb&v=5376576

Region Orchestra Auditions

Each year wind and percussion students have the opportunity to audition for the All Region ensembles. The first of those auditions is the All Region Orchestra. Klein Colins will be the host for this audition. Students who would like to audition need to return their audition contract in class on Monday November 1st. The entry deadline is November 2nd and late entries are not permitted. I have attached the contract in pdf format in case you forgot to pick one up from the band hall.

This audition is a “path to All State” audition which means that students who place high enough can advance to the Area round of auditions. Good luck to our students who are entering this audition!

Band Pictures

Our pictures from Wade’s Photography were delivered late last week and were distributed to students on Thursday and Friday. I do have a few in my office still so if you haven’t received yours yet please check with your student to see if they picked them up. If they didn’t, please come see me because they are probably in my office.

As always, if you have any questions, please reach out via email so I can help.
