Band Families,
Well that was certainly not how we planned our first contest to go. We were all disappointed that we didn’t get to compete. But we are focused on the path ahead and our next opportunity at the Lone Star Preview this weekend.
We are now in what we affectionately call “Band-tober”. The next several weeks will be pretty busy with contests and games. Please keep a close eye on the schedules in the Charms calendar. We will be updating them as more details are available to us.
Please note that there are a few links to Google forms in this email update. The one that is required is for the meal at Lone Star Preview. This form must be completed by all students, band staff, and volunteers who will be at the contest on Saturday.
Rehearsal Schedules
Now that it is getting darker earlier in the evening we are going to shift our rehearsals an hour earlier on some days. The Charms Calendar has been updated with those dates. Some of the dates have stayed at 5-8pm. On those dates we are planning to rehearse under the lights on our turf field at KC. None of those adjustments apply to this week’s schedule. The adjustments will start next week (October 11th)
For rehearsals that start in the evening (5:00-5:30pm) we ask that students go home and then return to campus for rehearsal. This will allow them time to eat, complete homework, and/or rest prior to the start of rehearsal. If the rehearsal starts right after school (3:15-4:00p) students can stay after school until rehearsal starts. Students who are staying after school MUST stay in the band hall. The building is closed at 2:55pm and students are not permitted to be wandering around the school.

- Meals- ACTION REQUIRED!!!
- Since we did not use the meal that you paid for last week KCBA will provide TWO meals for students on this day. The first will be breakfast after rehearsal and the second will be lunch/dinner at the stadium.
- Students will have an opportunity to visit the concession stand during the contest. This is optional. Please send money with your student if they plan to visit concessions.
- ACTION REQUIRED!! Please fill out this order form by 3:00 pm on Monday October 4th. The vendor for this meal is Jason’s Deli.
- Miscellaneous Details
- Marching Band Contests run on a very strict time schedule. Our Prelims Performance will start exactly at 12:45pm. Spectators are not permitted to enter the stands while a band is performing. A good rule of thumb is to plan to be in your seat one group before our performance. In this case that would be 12:30pm. Of course, you are welcome and encouraged to come early and watch other bands perform.
- Depending on placement in the Prelims portion of the day we may earn a spot in the Finals competition. We won’t know that for sure until the Prelims awards ceremony. If we advance to the finals competition performance times will be given to us after Prelims awards. We will share those times via Remind as soon as we have them.
- Most contests will have General Admission seating. The preferred seats for viewing are closest to the 50-yard line. Our band families often try to sit near each other to cheer on the students as a group. Wear your KC band spirit wear or show shirts to the contest and be on the lookout for the other KC Band families in the stands.
No Pass/No Play
The end of the Quarter 1 grading period is Thursday October 7th. Students can lose or regain eligibility based on the grades for Quarter 1. If a student has lower than a 70 in any on-level course -OR- lower than a 60 in an Exempt Course they will become academically ineligible for marching band. The date they lose eligibility is Thursday October 14th which means that any student who is ineligible for Q1 grades will not be allowed to participate in the following performances:
- Klein Cain Game October 15th
- UIL Region Marching Contest October 19th
- Klein Game October 23rd
- Tomball Memorial Game October 29th
- Area Marching Contest October 30th
If a student becomes ineligible they are still required to attend all rehearsals but are not permitted to participate in football game day or marching contests. If a student becomes ineligible based on the Q1 grade the next opportunity to regain eligibility is on Progress Report 3. That grading period ends on October 29th and students can regain eligibility on Friday November 5th.
In my experience most students who are receiving grades that would make them ineligible have missing assignments. Please help your student track their work and make sure all assignments are completed and submitted in a timely manner.
Band Pictures
Our group photo will be this Friday October 8th at 2:00pm. Students will wear full marching uniforms for this picture. Anyone who needs individual photos will be able to do that as well.
**For those who ordered photos on the first picture day, your order will be delivered shortly after we take the group photos on October 8th. We waited to fill orders until we had the group photo done so all can be delivered in one batch.**
As always, if you have any questions, please reach out via email so I can help.
