KC Band Update 8.1.21

Band Families,

We had a great first week of Summer Band and we are looking forward to Week 2! It was great seeing all of you at Registration Day. We are so glad to have you in our KC Band Family. Your weekly updates are below.

Rehearsal Schedules

We are now in Full Band mode for Summer Band. When you see “Full Band” on the Charms calendar that means ALL students (Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion, & Color Guard). For Summer Band rehearsals please wear athletic clothes (shorts, t shirts, athletic shoes) for each rehearsal. Don’t forget your black towel (for your instrument), water jug (filled before you get to school), pencil and music binder (with plastic sheet protectors). We are also recommending you bring a beach towel to put on the ground during stretch and choreography.

Fall Sports Athletes (Football & Volleyball) should attend rehearsals only during the afternoon 12:30-4:30 and only when not in direct conflict with athletics practices. If you are a fall athlete and are unsure about when you should be at band please email me so I can help.

  • Monday August 2nd – Full Band 7:30a-4:30p
    • Lunch Break 11:30a-12:30p

Students are encouraged to pack their lunch each day. If you are dropping off food for your student please do so during the lunch break time. Students will not be allowed to leave rehearsal to get their food. We are on a “closed campus” for lunch which means students may not leave campus during lunch.

Pictures

All students had a photo taken during our picture time on Friday. If you want to place an order but didn’t send in an order form on Friday, please contact Wades Photography via email (wade@wadesphotography.com) and they will be able to help you place your order.

Health/Nutrition

We are now approaching one of the most physically demanding portions of the season. When coupled with the seasonally hot weather student health and nutrition are paramount for your student to be successful. Here are a few tips and tricks.

  • Get a good night’s sleep
  • Eat a protein rich breakfast. Avoid sugary drinks/foods, coffee, energy drinks, etc.
  • Drink LOTS of water, especially at night between rehearsals. Students should be drinking at least 1 gallon of water per day during summer band.
  • Apply sunscreen at home first and be prepared to reapply during the morning rehearsal.
  • Wear a hat or visor to keep the sun off your face.

UDBapp

We utilize an app for drill learning called UDBapp. We worked on getting the students to download and create their account (if they are a new member) during rehearsal this past Friday. It is CRUCIAL that students have their FULLY CHARGED phone or device to learn drill. We do have a few loaner devices that students can use if they do not have a phone. Having their phone/device for rehearsal is equivalent to having their instrument. Their drill number assignments have been posted in Schoology. If a student does not have a drill number assigned in the document one will be assigned to them at rehearsal tomorrow.

Additionally, all wind and percussion students should watch the choreography video (also posted in Schoology) at least twice before rehearsal tomorrow morning.

Remind

If you aren’t in our Band Remind classes, here are the join codes. For band we group our classes by grade level so that you only have to join once during your high school band “career”.

  • 9th Grade – @KCB2025
  • 10th Grade – @KCB2024
  • 11th Grade – @KCB 2023
  • 12th Grade – @KCB2022

As always, if you have any questions please reach out via email so I can help. We will see you this week!
